The UC Natural Reserve System is strongly committed to stewardship of the lands it holds in the public trust. Programs at UCSB Reserves to support stewardship include Valley oak restoration, native plant phenology monitoring and photo documentation of native wildlife using trail cameras at Sedgwick Reserve; nurseries to propagate native plants for restoration of reserve habitats; management of sensitive species such as the federally listed species the Western Snowy Plover at Coal Oil Point Reserve; forest management at Valentine Camp; long-term monitoring of the Monterey Pine forest at the K.S.N. Rancho Marino Reserve; and participation in the efforts to remove non-native animals and plants on Santa Cruz Island to protect the once-endangered Island Fox, and restore native species and communities.
